Hello Soothing Tea,
I wanted to share this wonderful tea with you as I am quite sure you will find it soothing and very flavourful and it is super easy to make.
Last September my adult son ventured off to India and then Thailand to visit his sister. When I graduated from university, the trip everyone took was to Europe. Now it appears that the trip to take is to Southeast Asia and India. I love that fact that our children are exploring the homelands of their friends and neighbours. It makes them richer and more aware of world issues like hunger, poverty and the need for fresh water. It also gives them a chance to enjoy wonderful foods, see historic sites and to see the colours of a country first hand. One of the outstanding beverages that my son enjoyed in Northern India in the mountains up in Dharamasala was a wonderful ginger tea, with honey and lemon, that they drank before a meal.
When he came home from his travels, The Ginger Tea in a Glass was the first thing he made for us. And it was delicious.
From this tea, I created a sugar-free version that is amazing post meal if your guests ate too much or too quickly and need a little support for their digestion.
Ginger Tea Two Ways
Ginger Tea in a Glass
- Filtered water, boiled
- 1 inch of fresh ginger, peeled and diced
- 1 teaspoon of honey (raw if possible)
- Lemon wedge
- Put the ginger in the bottom of a glass that can withstand very hot water.
- Add a teaspoon of honey (Add to your taste)
- Pour the hot water over the ginger and honey.
- Serve with a slice of lemon
- The lemon is squeezed and added to the glass
- Stir and enjoy
Ginger Tea in a Teacup
- 4 cups of filtered water, boiled
- 3 inches of fresh ginger, peeled and diced
- Slice of organic lemon (optional)
- Put the ginger in the bottom of a tea pot or glass measuring cup that can withstand very hot water.
- Pour the hot water over the ginger and let steep for 10-20 minutes.
- If using a glass measuring cup, put a plate over the lid while it steeps.
- Using a strainer, pour into tea cups or mugs so that the ginger remains in the teapot or measuring cup.
- Serve with a slice of lemon (optional)
- Save the ginger in your teapot or measuring cup and pour more hot water on it and let it steep. Keep reusing it until no flavour remains and then compost the remains.
- Have a sweet tooth, you can add some honey to the tea. Personally, I don’t think it needs it.
- Make up a big batch of ginger tea and store in the fridge for the day. Add some sparkling mineral water to it and you have a sugar-free ginger ale (yes you could add honey at the beginning of the tea making for a sweet version).
- Want a really simple version, buy organic ginger tea bags and make a big pot and serve.
- Ginger tea gets stronger and better the longer it sits. Unlike black tea, the flavour just gets better.
