Getting out in Nature – Feel great, listen to the crackle of ice and signs of Spring

Hello Nature Lovers,

Each week I make a point to spend time in nature.  Yes, I actually write on my weekend activity list “spend time in nature” or “go for a walk in nature”.  I try to find a peaceful setting that allows me to take in a walk and also enjoy the beauty of nature.

This winter we have enjoyed many walks and a good snowshoe.

This weekend, the hubby and I were are Riverbend and enjoyed just being outside, taking in the warmth of the sun and walking on the crisp snow.  At one point in the day, I managed to head outside without the dog for 30 minutes.  My dog is a cutie but seeing any nature up close with a dog is challenging.  I experienced the most amazing thing while sitting at the edge of the river.  It was a cold night of -11C and the day was -6C.  Overnight, the river managed to freeze over again with just a thin layer of clear ice.  As I was sitting on the picnic table, the wind started and ice started to crack.  I picked up my camera and took this video – which is really about the quiet, the crackling of ice and the sounds of geese who have returned for their springtime antics.  All signs that spring is on it’s way.

For me, once I spend time outside, I feel great.  I really get energy and strength from being close to nature and taking the time to appreciate it.  Spending time outside all year allows you to enjoy each of the seasons and makes the you appreciate the crisp snow of winter, the melting of ice in spring along with the Trillium that will follow, the warmth of a summer day, and the colours of fall.

So this week, put on your activity list, “spend time in nature”.  You will be glad you did when we arrive back home.
